The Quantum Design Magnetic Properties Measurement
System (MPMS) is a SQUID-magnetometer allowing highly automated measurements
of the magnetic moment of a wide variety of samples as a function of magnetic
field, temperature, or time. Magnetic moments down to 10-7 emu
(10-10 Am2) can be measured in a reproducible way. The
MPMS has a temperature range between 2 and 400 K, the superconducting magnet
can reach magnetic fields between 5.5 and 5.5 Tesla.
In our group, the MPMS is mainly used to measure hysteresis loops of nanopatterned
superconducting and hybrid superconductor/ferromagnet thin films in a perpendicular
magnetic field to investigate the pinning behaviour of the superconducting
vortex lattice.
